As some of you already know, I (Nate) teach high school at a Hutterite colony in Minnesota. Before we set off on this grand adventure, I told my students at Spring Prairie Colony, about the idea of Project Wildness. Without hesitation, the high schoolers expressed their support and encouragement at the plan to do good for others along the way. After a few questions, the room was silent as if theywere reflecting on the idea.

One of the students broke the silence asking, “Will you go to the ocean?
I responded that yes, we surely would.
“Bring some back,” he said.
I laughed. “Bring back the ocean?”
“Yes. Why not?” I realized he was serious.
“And how could I bring you the ocean?” I asked.
“Just fill up a bottle. I want to taste how salty the water is.”

I realized in that moment how beautiful his idea was. I had the opportunity to bring the ocean to some kids who will likely never see it otherwise. Today, we made a dream reality and filled up a jug of water under the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco.

This is for my students and their never ending desire to discover. For you, we’re bringing home the ocean.

We don’t have to carry an ocean to make a difference. Sometimes just a little means just as much.‪#‎ProjectWildness‬
